These waxes provide an additional finish to the edges of your leathers, protect them and make them shine.
Columbus wax, preferably neutral in color (represented by a white square in the color choice) can also be used to wax your threads.
These waxes for leatherworking consist of natural beeswax, carnauba and paraffin wax. They will give you a beautiful shine, like a mirror, as well as additional waterproofing.
Wax is the last step in smoothing your slices, to apply it you have several solutions:
- Rub the wax directly against your edge vigorously.
- Heat the wax with a lighter and apply it directly to the edge. Spread the product while it is melted. (You can heat your slices with a lighter if the wax hardens during application.)
- Apply the wax using a hot applicator, we sell on the site multifunction iron burnishers which can be heated and are ideal for this kind of application.
For information, these waxes do not replace a slice dye, they will not color uniformly, but rather give a slightly nuanced, marbled effect.
If you want a uniform shade, we recommend that you apply an edge stain before waxing.
Regarding the waxing of your thread:
Using your thumb, be sure to lock the wire firmly against the wax pad. Then, by sliding evenly, the shoe polish soaks up all around your thread.
Whether it is a thread intended to be worn regularly, or a lace conducive to friction, do not hesitate to repeat this action regularly, so that the thread retains its waterproofness.
